The eye moves through the composition because of how things are placed; the roundness of the image keep the eye somewhat contained.  Depth is created by the shadows placed beneath each letter and the change in scale of the larger letters. Movement is created as the letters appear to fall not only back into space, but down the page as well.

The image represents a relationship between the moon and time. The moon is a constant thing each night but, shown by the crescent, it is constantly changing as well. Clocks show a consistency of time which we had become accustomed to but things change as time go on, hence the broken clock.
