Wood Carving

Nature and man made things have intertwined since humans came into existence. Gods are arguably something that is man made- at least the idea of what to call the deities that we worship. Gods influence nature and humans alike; this was something I wanted to represent with my piece. It is an idol of a goddess, inspired by various goddess statues from ancient cultures. The curves that create the elegant form of the female resonate with organic lines and human shape. Other than the simple human features I allowed for the shape to speak for itself- I did not want small details detracting from the solid form. The repeated curvilinear lines and circular shapes allows for repetition and unity; the viewer’s eyes are able to travel along the statue with resting areas of the face.
